A small but mighty lodge with a huge impact and history
The Year Was 1850,
at a location not far from here. The first masonic lodge meeting was held under a charter from the state of Wisconsin. Lafayette Lodge 29 was born, the year following in 1851, and 1863 a major part of which was to be known as Nevada City, was destroyed by a fire. By this time, California was a state, and a new lodge of California was established as Nevada 13 F&AM IN 1851. At this location, the first masonry structure was built in 1852 as a store. The 1863 fire destroyed this lodge and again a lodge at a different location. This site was purchased for $1,650 and built as a store with the lodge rooms upstairs. The lodge moved in 1864. A dining room/office extension was built to the right in 1901. Over the past 136 years, other masonic units and orders have also met here.

The Order of the Eastern Star is a worldwide fraternal, non-profit, charitable service organization that is an associated body of the family of Masonry similar to Shriners, Scottish Rite, York Rite and others. Meeting Day 1st. Tuesday, at 7:30pm
